It’s that time of year when we come together to recognise, celebrate, and raise awareness of the essential contributions of Teaching Assistants (TAs) across Primary, Secondary, and SEN schools on National Teaching Assistants’ Day. The theme this year is ‘read together, grow together.’
Making an impact through apprenticeships
As the demands facing those working in education continue to grow, so too do the responsibilities placed on TAs. From classroom behaviour support to personalised learning strategies, their role is increasingly complex and central to the success of pupils and teachers alike.
At ESF Apprenticeships, we’re committed to ensuring that TAs feel supported in their journey. Our Teaching Assistant apprenticeships offer accessible pathways into education, allowing individuals to gain valuable hands-on experience in live classroom settings while developing essential knowledge and skills.
Spotlight on Success: Meet Jess, Melbourn Primary School, Studying our Level 5 Specialist TA Apprenticeship (SEND pathway)
One inspiring example is Jess Dale, a Teaching Assistant from Melbourn Primary School, who recently embarked on our Level 5 Specialist TA apprenticeship. Since beginning her programme, Jess has seen her confidence soar, applying her new knowledge directly in the classroom and sharing her learning with colleagues. Her story highlights the ripple effect and value of professional development. The strategies Jess has adopted and shared are already making a measurable difference to pupil outcomes, demonstrating the power of schools who invest in developing their Teaching Assistants.
We recognise that Teaching Assistants are not “just support staff.” They are essential professionals, shaping the educational and sporting futures of young learners. Their dedication, compassion, and expertise have a lasting impact, both in the classroom and beyond, helping to foster inclusion, boost confidence, and create an environment where every pupil feels supported.
Working in partnership with our sister company, Real Training, we’re proud to offer programmes informed by educational psychology, ensuring that TAs are equipped with strategies grounded in research and best practice.
We offer progression routes for TAs to upskill through specialist training in areas such as SEND, Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Literacy, Language, and PE, health, and wellbeing. This ensures that TAs are able to make an even greater impact, to support the holistic development of the young people they support.
