Level 2 Community Activator Apprenticeship (13-15 months)
Why Study this apprenticeship?
If you enjoy sport and working with young people and would like to gain valuable experience working either within a school or community setting, then a Community Activator Coach apprenticeship could be for you.
Learners will be trained by qualified Teachers and sports specialists and you’ll connect with the wider agenda of promoting PE, health, and well-being through physical activity.
Gain experiences and opportunities to further your development and sporting career pathways by working alongside National Governing Bodies, County Sports Partnerships, and the Youth Sport Trust.
We have placed our learners in Football clubs, schools games organisers, sports coaching companies; including Wycombe Wanderers Foundation, Cambridge Community Foundation, and Stevenage FC Foundation.
The role of a Community Activator
The following knowledge skills and behaviours are part of this apprenticeship:
- Become a role model for PE and Sport.
- Understand the benefits of physical activity, health, and well-being for young people, families, and communities.
- Support the delivery of physical activity, PE, and sports and health-related activities.
- Helping within the classroom.
- Delivering warm-ups and small groups within PE lessons.
- Support and work towards the delivery of small projects such as Daily Mile, physical activity projects, and programmes.
- Contribute to teams that deliver community events, school sports competitions and festivals.
Course Content
This apprenticeship equips learners with the skills to support and deliver community events, work effectively within diverse communities:

Understand the role of a Community Activator in building motivating community relationships

Develop rapport with young people and understand how good role models behave.
- Understand the importance of Safeguarding, First aid, cultural awareness, mental health, inclusion, Vulnerable adults and young people.
- How to support in the delivery of community events.
- Learn how to promote national events to inspire participation.
- Explore the value of volunteers in bringing communities together to impact audience engagement.
- The benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle, including national initiatives such as Change for Life, Daily Mile.
- Gain insight into the work of the Youth Sports Trust.
- Session planning, including components of an activity session, warm up and cool down ideas.
- Understand pupil behaviour, effective communication, leadership techniques, and motivation strategies to encourage healthy active lifestyles within communities. · Learn how to monitor and evaluate sessions and events including setting SMART targets.
How will I learn?
Our apprentices are based within a community or school setting and work 30 hours a week with training being delivered within through a blended learning approach involving virtual and face-to-face.
Apprentices Lead Tutors deliver and as with all apprenticeships have at least 6 hours a week off the job training.
The role involves working within a school setting and supporting the delivery of Health and well-being, Physical Activity, Physical Education and school sport.
The wider community role involves working within the local PE and school sports network to deliver competition for all the schools within the area.
Eligibility
A pathway for GCSE school leavers entering the world of work for the first time and have no previous experience working in a school or a community setting.
Or for those looking to start a career in education and have no previous experience working with children.
If you’re looking for a stepping stone to a professional career in the world of coaching working in a community or sports setting.
To enroll in the Community Activator Level 2 Apprenticeship:
Applicants must have an equivalent qualification to a Grade F GCSE or a Grade 1-3 in English and Maths.
Alternatively, they must be working towards achieving Functional Skills Level 2 in these subjects.
