‘Meet Jess Doherty, Level 3 PE Teaching Assistant
Willow Tree Primary School in Northolt.
Jess discovered her passion for sport and PE.
After she left high school, Jess went on to attend both Uxbridge College and West Herts College, where she studied a sports science level 3 course.
“Before finding this apprenticeship I dropped out of two colleges and had a really hard time, but this apprenticeship has been the best thing for me and everyone around me has recognised a change in my physical and mental health.”
During her spare time, Jess was already a sports coach for West Herts College and playing for a local football team.
However, it was whilst she was working full time in a doctor’s surgery that Jess realised that she wanted to combine her love for sport as part of her career and working with children to potentially form a career.
Jess found her Educational and Sporting Futures apprenticeship when she was looking on the government website, ‘Find an apprenticeship’. Jess’s enthusiasm for sport and the desire to work with children, ensured her successful apprenticeship application and subsequent job offer working in Willow Tree Primary School in Northolt.
“The team is brilliant, you always feel welcomed and supported. There has not been one moment where I’ve questioned if this is the right apprenticeship for me. I love it, my apprenticeship has been the best experience ever, and very grateful to have been given this experience and don’t have one bad thing to say about it.”
Futures aspirations
Jess aspires to continue with her apprenticeship journey and embark on the Level 4 Sports Coach apprenticeship offered by Educational and Sporting Futures, to provide additional skills to continue her career working with children in a sports or coaching environment.
