Meet Charlotte Day

Level 3 Teaching Assistant (Classroom)

Apprenticeship with SEND support training

Charlotte works in a Community Special School based in Stevenage, Lonsdale, where she has enjoyed helping students the best that she can.

Thanks to her apprenticeship training, she has been able to put in place a few different initiatives in her classroom to help support students.

“After doing my apprenticeship one of the things I introduced was a soft start in the morning. This is so the students can transition from home to school more easily. I introduced different bags filled with different activities for each student to pick to start their day.

Throughout the apprenticeship training, you are fully supported by your tutor. They provide extra seminars where they have guest speakers who offer great knowledge and are very approachable if you need support.”

What initiatives have you been able to implement as an apprentice?

I have been able to put in place a few different things in my classroom to help support students. After doing my apprenticeship one of the things I introduced was a soft start in the morning. This is so the students can transition from home to school easier. I introduced different bags filled with different activities for each student to pick to start their day.

Provide feedback on how your tutor has supported you.

My tutor was a constant support. She was available on the phone or through messaging whenever needed. She was very approachable and made the whole time enjoyable as well as very informative.

How would you describe your apprenticeship journey?

Very hard but I enjoyed every bit of it.

Which aspect of the apprenticeship has been the hardest?

The hardest was the amount of personal time out of work hours that I had to spend on the research tasks. I would say on average 6 hours a week.

Charlotte’s future aspirations
“I have completed my apprenticeship and would love to move forward within the school. I would like to do some further education to enable me to do so.”

I would recommend an apprenticeship with Educational & Sporting Futures because….

You are fully supported throughout by your tutor. They provide extra seminars where they have guest speakers who offer great knowledge. Very approachable if you need support.
