Starting her journey as a Level 2 Community Activator Coach

Emeka has faced some barriers in her educational journey, particularly with her English and Maths functional skills. Despite this, she has shown real resilience and determination in her role. She is a very talented rugby player and brings valuable experience from coaching children outside of school.

Her sporting background has enabled her to build strong relationships with pupils, particularly those who benefit from positive role models and structured physical activity.

How has your confidence changed since you started?

“So far, I have benefited immensely from my sporting apprenticeship at The Raglan School through ESF Apprenticeships programme. I have gained confidence, leadership skills, and the ability to work with young people in a school environment."

What are some of the core skills you’ve learned during your apprenticeship?

"I have gained valuable experience in leading interesting physical activities, working with students of varying abilities, and understanding the importance of working in partnership with others. I have gained enthusiasm for sports and re-confirmed my desire to have a career in education and sports.”

We asked Emeka’s PE Teacher and School Mentor: How has she made an impact on the school community?

Emeka has quickly become an integral member of both the PE team and the wider school community. She consistently demonstrates adaptability and a proactive attitude, always willing to step in and support colleagues to ensure the school timetable runs smoothly.

Emeka plays a vital role in supporting and overseeing after-school clubs at Raglan Schools, where she has built strong, positive relationships with the children. She also provides valuable support during playtimes and lunchtimes by organising and leading structured activities such as football and the daily “Run for Raglan” mile.

Her central training has clearly supported her in applying her developing knowledge and skills effectively within the school setting. Emeka is a valued and key member of the PE team at Raglan, and her contribution has had a positive impact on both staff and pupils.
