Are we giving TAs the right support for a challenging role?

Our new Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant apprenticeship equips teaching assistants with the skills and knowledge to support SEND in the classroom

We featured in Schools Week where we shared details of our latest apprenticeship designed to equip teaching assistants with the skills and knowledge to support SEND in the classroom.  You can read the full article here:

“This new standard marks a significant milestone in recognising and elevating the vital role of teaching assistants,”
Jo Pountney, Director of Educational and Sporting Futures, who was part of the trailblazer group that created the apprenticeship.

The Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant apprenticeship programme and its three specialisms delivered by Educational and Sporting Futures will include optional HLTA status. The social and emotional wellbeing specialism will also include ELSA training, while the SEND specialism (amongst other things) will cover;

  • theoretical knowledge of SEND, such as autism and dyslexia as well as an understanding of attachment and trauma
  • strategies to advance learning for pupils with a range of SEND
  • practical skills for ongoing assessment and support.

At Educational and Sporting Futures, we are committed to supporting education professionals. This programme will provide teaching assistants with opportunities for career progression, allowing them to take their careers to the next level while continuing in their roles and making a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable children.

Our programme has just launched and we are accepting bookings for our Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant to join the 10 December cohort, and you can find out more information here.
