Level 2: Early Years Practitioner
(13-15 months)
The Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Standard Apprenticeship will equip learners with the key knowledge, skills, and behaviours to support in an Early Years setting. Participating in the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) whilst enhancing the ethos of the setting.

What you will learn
- An understanding of how babies and young children learn and develop
- The importance of holistic development including cognitive, speech, language and communication, physical, emotional, and social development.
- An understanding of how to support assessment and planning and provide an enabling environment for babies and young children.
- Understanding of Safeguarding, child protection and promoting the well-being welfare of all babies and young children, including those with additional needs.
- How to work co-operatively with parents/carers, colleagues, and other professionals to enhance babies and young children’s learning, enabling them to make progress.
As part of the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Standard, you will also gain an NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner qualification
How will you be assessed?
- Submit a portfolio of evidence that is collated with work-based tasks and evidence, observations, and written assignments.

What are the entry Requirements?
Essential requirements:
- Excellent Interpersonal Skills
- Communication Skills
- Teamwork Skills
Desired requirements:
- Grace C or above or 4/5 (new grading) at GCSE in Maths
- Grace C or above or 4/5 (new grading) at GCSE in English
If a learner does not have the above then they must attain at least a Level 1 Functional Skills prior to Gateway and show evidence of working towards a Level 2 in both of the above if required
How is the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner course delivered?
- Discover new knowledge in live, interactive virtual sessions led by experienced teachers in their field.
- Engage in central training days, led by qualified teachers / other professionals to deliver high-quality sessions and lessons in PE.
- Collaborate with other apprentices working in similar environments throughout the programme.
How long is the course?
- Typically, courses last 13- 15 months including End Point Assessment (EPA) and qualification verification
