Level 3: (13-15 months)

Our Level 3 Teaching Assistant Standard Apprenticeship with PE, focuses on promoting health and wellbeing across the school.  The role supports the class teacher to be able to deliver Physical Education.

For those with a desire to improve and inspire the lives of others to be physically active, then this is the role for you.

As an apprentice learner, you will develop knowledge and understanding in other areas and subjects within a school setting.

For the right person, there is a potential pathway within school sport.

The Role

The role of a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice with a PE, Health and Wellbeing Focus involves, extending opportunities for all pupils to participate in extracurricular activities including:-

  • Deliver active lunchtimes and support after-school and community sport.
  • Taking on more responsibility within the school setting
  • Greater supporting role in PE, Physical Activity Sessions
  • Liaising with School Games Organisers to help organise Festivals and Competitions
  • Greater emphasis of supporting in a classroom-based setting to develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours
  • Engaging within a second subject to further develop your skills.

What you will learn

  • An understanding of how pupils learn and develop
  • The importance of feedback in promoting independent learners
  • Behaviour support strategies
  • An understanding of the National Curriculum/assessment for learning and how to support children
  • Understand current statutory guidance including ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’
  • Part 1, Safeguarding Policies and the Prevent Strategy
  • The importance of ICT and how it can be used effectively
  • A focus on PE with both local and central training sessions

How will you be assessed?

  • Submit a portfolio of evidence that is collated with, written assignments, case studies and presentations
  • Practical observations
  • Professional discussion

What are the entry Requirements?

Essential requirements:

  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Teamwork Skills

Desired Requirements:*

  • Grade C or above or 4/5 (new grading) at GCSE in Maths
  • Grade C or above or 4/5 (new grading) at GCSE in English

*If you don’t already have GCSEs in English and maths, you will need to take Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship.
Functional skills Level 2 is an alternative to GCSEs and equivalent to a grade 4 GCSE.

How is this course delivered?

  • Discover new knowledge in live, interactive virtual sessions led by experienced teachers in their field.
  • Engage in central training days, led by qualified teachers / other professionals to deliver high-quality sessions and lessons in PE.
  • Collaborate with other apprentices working in similar environments throughout the programme.
  • On-site tutor visits, once a term as a minimum.

 

How long is the course?

  • Typically, courses last between 13 to 15 months including a month for End Point Assessment (EPA)

Career pathways

At the end of this second year depending upon existing academic qualifications gained by the individual the potential progression routes are:

  • Employed within a school as a Teaching Assistant, sometimes this can be with the school where you have been training
  • Foundation Degree in learning and teaching with a potential pathway into Teaching, Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Higher/Further Education, Public Services, Police Force and Sports Development.
  • Go to university to study a degree
