Shaping Educational and Sporting Futures
It’s that time of year, when we recognise and celebrate and raise awareness of the essential contributions of Teaching Assistants (TAs) across Primary, Secondary, and SEN schools on National Teaching Assistants’ Day 2024,
Teaching Assistants elevate support in classrooms, by providing vital support, whether working with class groups or offering one-on-one assistance to students. Their role is instrumental in fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment that benefits both students and staff.
At Educational and Sporting Futures, we are proud to offer a Teaching Assistant apprenticeship pathway, designed to offer an accessible route into teaching. Through immersive work experience and hands-on training, our apprentices gain knowledge and skills while working in a dynamic, live classroom setting.
We also provide opportunities for experienced Teaching Assistants to upskill and expand their expertise. By offering additional training in key areas such as SEND, PE, health, and well-being, we ensure that our TAs are equipped with strategies to make an even greater impact in their current roles. This training supports not only classroom learning but also promotes holistic development on the field of play.
A Collaborative Role for the Future of Education
Working closely with teachers, Teaching Assistants play a crucial role in delivering high-quality education. Under the guidance and supervision of classroom teachers, TAs provide both general and targeted support to pupils, whether in group settings or on an individual basis.
Through our comprehensive TA training programme, we focus on preparing TAs with the essential skills to effectively support students who may require additional assistance. This hands-on training includes modules that cover everything from classroom management to specialised care for pupils with diverse learning needs.
Becoming a Teaching Assistant
As a Teaching Assistant, your day-to-day responsibilities may vary depending on your school’s needs, but often include working from 8:30 am until the school day finishes. Some TAs also contribute to extracurricular activities, such as sports and clubs.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Working with small groups or individual pupils under the teacher’s supervision
- Assisting pupils in understanding instructions, promoting independent learning, and encouraging inclusion for all students
- Supporting classroom behaviour management and helping pupils stay on task
- Providing emotional and social well-being support, with appropriate feedback to the teacher
- Setting up and clearing learning environments and assisting with classroom preparation and displays
Why Choose a Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships offer a fantastic route for aspiring TAs to earn while they learn, fit training around childcare, return to the workforce, or simply gain nationally recognised qualifications. This hands-on approach allows you to gain valuable experience in the classroom while developing your skills, knowledge, and behaviours.
At Educational and Sporting Futures, we believe that Teaching Assistants are not just support staff—they are key partners in shaping the educational and sporting futures of young learners. Whether in the classroom or on the field, Teaching Assistances make a lasting impact in the lives of students.
