We are incredibly proud to celebrate Stanley Ayres, one of our apprentices, currently working as a Teaching Assistant at The Giles Nursery and Infant School, who has been officially revealed as a winner of the Young Star Award at the North Herts Heroes 2026 awards.

Hosted by Cllr Keith Hoskins, Chair of North Herts Council, the annual event at Lucas Lane Sports Club honours individuals who selflessly make a difference in the community. Stanley, a Level 3 PE Teaching Assistant apprentice, was recognised for his dedication to enhancing learning and physical activity for his pupils.

Drawing on his personal experience as a student who struggled with ADHD, and the discipline he gained from boxing, Stanley now inspires young children at The Giles Nursery and Infants’ school. His humble nature and considerate work make him an exceptional role model for the next generation.

Working primarily with Reception and Year 1, Stanley has become an integral part of the school. His Headteacher,  Rouane Mendeland, highlights his impact in a recent video, explaining that having a male sporting apprentice is especially valuable for pupils who may lack father figures at home. According to Mrs. Mendeland, Stanley’s presence has been a "powerful addition" to the school community.

The North Herts Heroes awards are an opportunity to recognise and thank the incredible people from the local community. Stanley received an engraved trophy, handcrafted by the Letchworth Men's Shed, in recognition of his exceptional service.

At ESF Apprenticeships, we specialise in helping schools grow through the power of apprenticeships. Stanley is a perfect example of how apprentices serve as inspirational role models for pupils, all while providing a cost-effective solution for increasing your school's capacity

For anyone looking to follow in Stanley’s footsteps, we’re accepting applications for anyone looking to study an apprenticeship post GCSEs or A Levels from September 2026.
